Pastor Doss was saved at the age of eight years old during a revival meeting.  His family faithfully attended Liberty Baptist Church in Mocksville, NC for most of Pastor Doss’ life.  Upon graduation from Woodland Baptist Christian school in Winston-Salem, NC, Pastor Doss attended Pensacola Christian College.

It was at PCC that God called Pastor Doss to preach His Word.  Upon graduation Pastor Doss taught Christian school while he worked in various ministry positions at Liberty Baptist Church.  During this time God brought Pastor and Mrs. Doss together and upon their marriage they served for several years at Turner’s Creek Baptist church.  Pastor and Mrs. Doss worked on a bus route, as the primary church leaders and Pastor Doss taught an adult Sunday school class.

In the summer of 2002 God called Pastor Doss to come to California, to plant a church.  In March of 2005, Pastor Doss and his family moved to Merced and in the fall of that same year Merced Baptist Church was planted.

BELIEFS & DOCTRINE

This is not a complete statement of faith. You may request one in writing at any of our services.

Scriptures

We believe that the Bible is the inerrant, infallible, Word of God and that it is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. We believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the Word of God as found in the 66 books that make up the Canon of the Bible. We believe that God has preserved His Word for all generations. We further believer that the KJV is an accurate and faithful translation of the original manuscripts. For this reason, the King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only translation used by this church in all of its public ministries. (I Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21)

Sovereign God

We believe that the Godhead eternally exits in three Persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and that these three are one God, having precisely the same homage, confidence, and obedience. Each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 26:19; 1 Corinthians 8:6)

Son

We believe in the essential deity and virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ; that He was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary not having human father, and is true God and true man; that He is man's only hope of salvation from sin, being the only mediator between God and man; that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day for our sins according to the Scriptures; that His return for His Church, the Body of Christ, which He will come to this earth to set up His millennial reign. (Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-4; John 10:30; John 14:6; I Timothy 2:5-6; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20:4-6)

Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit of God is a person who has personality and all the attributes of Deity. We believe the Holy Spirit has always been involved in the affairs of mankind. However, we believe He has a special ministry which began at Pentecost and will continue until the rapture. This ministry includes convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The Holy Spirit was also seen to regenerate, sanctify, seal, and fill all who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. (John 3:5-6; John 14:16; Acts 1:5; Acts 11:15; I Corinthians 3:16; I Corinthians 6:19-20; I Corinthians 12:13)

Sin

We believe that God created man in His own image and that man sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death which is conscious and eternal separation from God. We believe that all men are born with a sinful nature, evidenced by sinful acts; that man is totally depraved (every aspect of man has been affected by sin) and that if he is not born again, he is eternally lost.(Genesis 1:26-27; Psalms 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Luke 16:23; Revelation 21:8; Romans 2:10-23; Romans 5:12; I Corinthians 15:21-22; Revelation 20:11-15; Revelation 21:8)

Sacrifice of Christ

The Lord Jesus Christ suffered and died as a substitutionary payment for the sins of the whole world. He physically arose from the dead and then ascended into Heaven. Simple faith in this sacrifice is the only way of salvation for mankind. (Luke 24; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 5:8-10; I Peter 3:18)

Salvation

We believe that salvation is a gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for forgiveness of sins. We believe that a person is saved when he repents of his sin and exercises faith by accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. The believer is kept by the power of God and is eternally secure in Christ. We believe that all those who reject Jesus Christ as their Savior are already condemned to an eternity in the lake of fire. (John 1:12; John 5:24; John 10:28-29; Romans 6:23; II Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:8, 10; I John 5:17; Romans 8:19-23; I John 3:2; II Thessalonians 1:7-9; Hebrews 9:27; II Peter 2:8-9; Revelation 20:12-15; Revelation 21:8)

Security of the Believer

We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and are thus eternally secure in Christ forever. We believe that the Bible clearly teaches that a person can be assured that they have eternal life through Christ. (John 6:37; Romans 8:1, 38-39; I Corinthians 1:4-8; I Peter 1:4-5; I John 5:13)

Satan and Fallen Angels

We believe that Satan is a person. He was created perfect but sinned and became the arch enemy of God and His creation. He is the chief adversary of God's children. He seeks to keep man from the Lord, and when he cannot succeed in this, he seeks to weaken the testimony of Christians. He has at his command a great host of fallen angels and demons to carry out his purposes. He is not omnipotent and can be overcome by the power of God. His doom is sealed in the Lake of Fire forever and forever. (Ezekiel 28:12-19; Isaiah 14:12; Revelation 12:10; Revelation 20:10)

Separation

We believe that all those redeemed should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord; and, that separation from all religious apostasy, all worldly and sinful pleasures, practices and associations is commanded of God.Romans 12:1-2; II Corinthians 6:14-7:1; II Timothy 3:1-5; I John 2:15-17; II John 9-11)

Second Coming of Christ

We believe in the literal interpretation of the Scriptures in their grammatical and historical context. We believe in the pre-tribulational rapture of the church saints, followed by the seven year tribulation. We believe in the pre-millenial return of Christ to the earth and His literal rule of one thousand years. Following this one thousand years is the Great White Throne judgment and then the new heaven and new earth. (I Corinthians 15:51-58; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; I Thessalonians 5:1-9; Revelation 19-22)
